Do you use a Torrent, of course not…neither do I, but for those of you who do use a Torrent to download the the latest TV shows, Music and movies, you’re in for a bit of a wake up call. Birmingham University in the UK has just released a study that found that if you download a popular torrent you’re likely to be monitored with in a few hours.

So the question is who is monitoring you, well the team discovered around 10 different monitoring entities, of which a few were identifiable as security companies, copyright firms, or other torrent researchers. But six entities could not be identified because they were masked through third party hosting.

No that you should be sufficiently freaked out let’s take a look at the types of torrents they are looking at the monitors were only regularly detected in Top 100 torrents, while monitoring of more obscure material was more spotty. Depending on your taste in downloads you could be in the clear.

So pirates beware, someone IS watching you.
