At the Hong Kong Electronics Show 2013 we expected to see a bunch of strange gadgets, but we didn’t expect to see a really bad ASUS Padfone knock off…well, the only reason we’ve come to this conclution is that they Skywood has bascially stolen the name and changed the spelling. The Skywood PhonePad is a 10.1 inch tablet that has a docking station for a Samsung Galaxy S2, S3 or S4 as well as the iPhones that have the lightening connector. The idea is that you dock your phone into the tablet and use it for gaming or consuming media.
The PhonePad has a 10.1″ display with a resolution of 1,024 x 600 with a glossy display that doesn’t offer the best viewing angles. The portable gaming device tablet flips up into a viewing mode with an HDMI port, headphone jack and a 3300 mAh battery. It weighs only 0.964kg and should come in at the $125 dollar range, give or take a few bucks.
If you’re wondering about usability your media will resume if you get a phone call while watching a movie or playing games. The PhonePad will also charge your phone while you’re using it. We won’t keep you from the hands on joy, but we have to wonder if ASUS will be flattered or horrified by this interesting take of their design.
