What’s Robin, you ask? It’s a beautifully designed Android smartphone which was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter last September. It’s made by Nextbit, a San Francisco-based company that created clever software that makes sure your device never runs out of space. This “cloud first” approach manages storage by automatically backing up (and restoring) your pictures, apps, and settings based on your usage patterns.
Robin costs $399 (unsubsidized) and features a 5.2-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage (100GB in the cloud), a 13 megapixel rear camera (5MP in front), 2680mAh battery, a fingerprint reader, plus NFC — all wrapped in a lovely (and smart) package. Nextbit will begin shipping phones to backers on Feb 16, and you can expect our full review next week. Until then, check out our hands-on video.
