Microsoft is developing an Ideas feature for Word’s online version that uses AI to suggest grammar changes, among other assists. In addition to catching basic errors, it can recommend rewriting phrases to improve concision, clarity and inclusiveness. Your report might be more to-the-point without requiring quite so much proofreading.
Ideas won’t just help you with writing but it will also help with reading. Machine learning will estimate reading times, pull out the key points and could even explain acronyms. Reading long articles could be a thing of the past, Ideas could give you an executive summary instead.

If you’re already using Grammerly or Google Docs some these might not be revolutionary. Still, for the multitudes who are using Word, the technology should be available in preview form sometime this June, and everyday users in the fall.
