YotaPhone is finally getting some competition in the form of an iPhone case. In other news, some Google products are growing while others are dying.
The YotaPhone has become a sensation in the world of gadgets, and we can thank its innovative second display for all the hype it has been subject of. What makes this second display special is that it is an E-Ink panel – similar to what you see in electronic readers. This is a very low-powered technology and offers great features, but it’s no longer the only one touting such features.
Any iPhone 6 user can now have an E-Ink display on the back of his device. This is thanks to a new and intriguing case named popSLATE. The case has its very own 240 mAh battery, which powers the screen and integrated system. The case can connect to your smartphone via bluetooth, from which you can send any image to be displayed on your case screen.
The cool thing is that it can keep an image indefinitely, even if the case’s battery dies (much like the YotaPhone). The bad part is that its functionality continues to be pretty much aesthetic. Yes you can put up your maps and all that, but what I mean is that it has no actionable features. In a Yotaphone you can access your social networks and interact witht he E-Ink screen. With the popSlate, all you can do so far is send your images.
You can buy the popSLATE case for iPhone 6 starting today. Just head over to the official website and order it. Be warned, this thing is not cheap. IT is priced at a whopping $129.
Opinion: This is an awesome concept, I must say. I can’t pass judgement until I test it, but it does seem a bit over-priced. Would you guys rather get this E-Ink-gearing case over a Mophie Juice Pack?
What’s the one thing every owner of an older streaming device says? “Well, at least it has YouTube!”. Bad news, guys – some of your older devices are about to stop supporting the popular video streaming service!
Data API v2 was shut down yesterday, so don’t be surprised if you find out your Apple TV YouTube app doesn’t work, or your older iOS devices. That is right, Some not-so-old Apple devices are included in the list of devices still using v2. And because they are relatively old in today’s standards, you shouldn’t be hoping the manufacturer will update these apps.
Opinion: Regardless, developers can update the YouTube service is they choose to do so. All the details can be found at YouTube’s announcement.
Android Wear keeps evolving, but Google has had to push some project to the front of the line with the recent announcement of the Apple Watch. The Search Giant has just pushed a significant update to its wearable OS. Namely, the most important improvement is the fact that Android Wear now supports WiFi.
Of course, this is given that the device itself has WiFi. Our friends at Phandroid reached out to LG and found out the LG G Watch doesn’t have support for WiFi at all. Meanwhile, other devices like the LG G Watch R, LG Watch Urbane, Moto 360 and Sony SmartWatch 3 do. Other improvements include support for always-on apps and improved gestures.
Opinion: Is WiFi n Android Wear that important to you? I guess if you like walking away from your phone a lot, but to me it just seems like “something else to worry about”.
