It’s been some time since the Microsoft Surface and the Surface 2 Pro were announced by Microsoft as an update to its last years products yesterday. This post is intended to share with you our hands on video of both these devices where we talk in detail about the new products.
We of course begin with the Surface 2 which happens to be an upgrade to the original Surface RT tablet that made its debut last year. This apart from being a cheaper alternative to the Surface 2 Pro, has been priced at $449 for the base variant. It would be made available starting October 22 in the US and other markets. The device runs Windows 8 – which in turn is all set to receive an update Windows 8.1 on October 17. The display on the Surface measures 10.6 inches diagonally and features an NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor running at 1.7 GHz and supported ably by 2 GB of RAM . The device also comes in two capacity variants – either 32 or 64 GB. The display now has a resolution of with 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Here’s our man Sascha’s take on the Surface 2
As for the Surface 2 Pro, this one as the name suggests is targeted at professionals who want the full power of a laptop in a tablet-style device. The Surface 2 Pro gets Intel’s Haswell chips that lends it a 75 percent gain in its battery life over the older model. The graphical performance has also been improved by 50 percent and the overall performance is 20 percent better. The Surface 2 Pro will come in various configurations starting with a 64 GB and 128 GB version with 4 GB of RAM plus a 256 GB and 512 GB edition with 8 GB of RAM. Microsoft is calling it the “most powerful, professional, and productive tablet ever made.” The rest of the specifications on the Surface 2 Pro are similar to that of the Surface 2.
