Meizu may not be a brand name familiar to many in the West, but this Chinese brand has a strong foot hold in the low to mid range Android Market. Not satisfied with being good at the low end Meizu has started releasing some high spec’ed great looking devices. Earlier this year they launched the MX4 and today at their launch event in Beijing we go hands on with their new high end device, the Meizu MX4 Pro.
Adding the Pro to the end of the name means more than just increasing the internal specifications, in this case they also increased the size with 5.5″ QHD what they dubbing a 2K+ display, which means 2560 x 1536 and a ppi of 543 with an NEGA (Negative LCD) panel. The side bezel is on 2.8mm thick which is among the thinnest out there.
It comes with other high end features like a fingerprint scanner that comes embedded in a new physical home button, they are dubbing it mTouch.
Under the hood we’ve got a Samsung Exynos 5430 at with a future proof 3GB of RAM. The processor inside puts this device at the top of the pile in any benchmarking race. The octa-core Exynos 5430 is also found in the Samsung Galaxy Alpha and it was the world’s first 20nm high-k metal gate (HKMG) chipset. The Exynos 5430 is based on ARMs big.LITTLE technology, 4 ARM Cortex-A15 at 2.0Ghz and 4 power efficient Cortex-A7 cores at 1.5Ghz. ARMs big.LITTLE configuration means that 5430 can decide whether to use each cluster separately or together depending what you’re doing with your handset. Looking at the systems graphics we’ve got a hexa-core ARM Mali-T628.
As Smartphones increasingly replace the point and shoot camera segment Meizu won’t be left behind with its 20.7MP Sony Exmor lens with two tone LED flash that is capable of 4K video capture, Slow Motion and is sporting Sapphire Glass. On the front we’ve got a 5MP camera for the Selfie lover and if you really need it you can even capture 1080p video. Meizu’s beautification is included, but wait for the unboxing which is coming up shortly and check out the camera interface which is unique and well thought out.
If you’re wondering what it’s got storage wise, it comes with 16/32/64GB variations with no MicroSD card slot.
Audio is also a pretty big deal on this handset, so big in fact that Meizu is dubbing it ‘Retina Sound’.
The price tag of all of these 2499cyn for the 16GB which works out to about 410USD, the 32GB is $440USD and the 63GB is $505USD to be released on the 6th of December just in time for Christmas.
We were live at the event and got some shots of the product launch…there are some classics in there with homages to Apple so be sure to check them out.
Like we mentioned we got a unit to unbox, so be sure to check
back for out the unboxing and hands on article and video.
