The rumor mill on the iPhone 5 or the new iPhone as everyone seems to agree it will be called, are something of a bizarre cultural phenomena. With the launch happening on September 12th we don’t have much longer to wait for the over the top speculation to end.

NFC is a feature that I personally have been looking for in all of my future handsets so I thought would cover this one since everyone has been so adamant that the handset will come with NFC.

Recently surfaced photos on the front of the iPhone 5 showed a small square cover, the knee jerk consensus was that it was coming with NFC.  Not an all together far fetched rumor since the  iPhone 5 home button looked like it housed a bracket the exact same size as an NFC chip or finger print scanner.

Jim Dalrymple over at The Loop spoke out in an attempt to crush the speculation but no one believed him.  But now the guys from SonnyDickson have dug up some new photos showing what was under the little black cover that everyone was so sure was NFC.

It appears that the metal bracket that was suspected to be home to the NFC chip may simply hold the front-facing FaceTime camera, proximity sensor and earpiece speaker.
