After recently adding video sharing ability, Instagram seems to be on the lookout to acquire small time competitors. As a part of that move, the Facebook owned application has acquired the small time video sharing application ,Luma. Folks from over at Luma officially announced the news while also informing that the service would shut down on December 31.
All of Luma’s employees would be integrated to the Instagram team. This also holds good for most of Luma’s features. In fact, Instagram already used the video stabilization technology according to reports. While Facebook ha not officially written about this acquisition, a Facebook spokesperson did confirm the development.
If you happen to be an existing Luna user, you would be able to download all your videos before December 31. As for Luma, the company says that it hopes both Luma and Instagram would benefit from this move and that there would be improvements to Instagram’s video capability after features from Luma would be integrated onto it.
The Luma application currently provides basic video editing abilities with the application. These include brightness adjustment, exposure to shoot video with a few filters turned on. It remains to be seen what difference we would see on the Instagram video mode once the Luma integration is completed.
