I ran across a very interesting infographic tonight. One that made me wonder just how much we focus on software versions. Specifically, Android versions, which are labeled by desserts.
Google has a way of taking techie concepts and simplifying them to make the public more interested. A way to do this was to name these software versions as awesome, delicious and popular sweets. People won’t care much about Android 5.0, but hearing about Android Lollipop will spark that interest.
These desserts have become something we identify with, something that we look forward to. If you follow tech news, you will know there is always rumors about what the next Android version will be called. It’s a fun little game, and Google is now even creating ads revolving around this phenomena.
I must accept I thought it was an odd technique when I first heard of Donut and Eclair. It thought it would make Android seem like a joke, but now I see how far we have come and how this movement made people much more interested in what they are rocking, and how it affects them.
Seeing the whole history of Android, its desserts and the many improvements it has undergone is always exciting. So join us and take a look at the infographic below. Just for fun! Which, ultimately, is what tech is all about nowadays. Something even the Android software version naming scheme displays.
Things have definitely changed, and we are now taking a look at different form factors and functionality. I do see Google TV and Android TV missing, though.
So… which is your favorite Android dessert? I am a big fan of Ice Cream Sandwich. Not only is it delicious, but it brought together the tablet and smartphone form factor, blending the lines between them and making for a unified experience.
