Any smartphone worth its salt can characterize itself for some unique accomplishment. The first this, the fastest that, the most… you get the point. Gionee aims to take on the market with the Elife S5.5. By the way, that name has nothing to do with that screen size.
What makes the Gionee Elife S5.5 unique is its astounding thinness. This device only measures 5.55 mm in thickness! As we mention in the video, the thinnest smartphone so far is the Huawei Ascend P6 at 6.18 mm of thickness.
What else does this phone have to offer? We have gotten our hands all over the Gionee Elife S5.5 and it’s not a bad phone. Let’s dig into some of our first impressions.
Astounding build quality and design
At 5.55 mm of thickness, it’s doubtful that any manufacturer would be able to make a solid smartphone. Gionee was able to do some amazing work, considering the circumstances. The device feels very well-built. No parts are loose and even the buttons feel right in place.
It’s also important to note this device is very good looking. Its metal rim makes it look much more premium, and the slim body gives it the most beautiful.
For a device that costs 22,999 Rupees (about $392 USD), this device performs ok. It is far from matching the Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and the like, but its Mediatek octa-core processor and 2 GB of RAM seem to do a fair job.
There is the occasional stutters and sudden lag, but we will do some more testing and banchmarks to see how far this little guy can take us.
The screen is one area where we can’t really complain. Those 5 inches of 1080p awesomeness are bound to give you a good viewing experience, and that it does.
All things considered – is the Gionee Elife S5.5 worth 22,999 Rupees? We know you can find great options in Asia for that price, but we will keep testing this bad boy. A full review is on its way, so stay tuned!
