ASUS sincerely enjoys creating innovations that shake up our categorization of devices and they’re always up for something new. It seems that Windows 8 is not the exception. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, ASUS mentioned that they are interested in manufacturing Windows Phone 8 smartphones.

ASUS Interested in Manufacturing Windows Phone 8 Smartphones

Benson Lin, ASUS’ head of the Mobile Communications division, told the WSJ that ASUS is busy with plans for Windows 8 mobile devices, especially smartphones. It’s quite possible that ASUS will apply their Windows 8 plans to modular devices like the Padfone. The Padfone is currently on the market in its second reincarnation.

ASUS is in no rush to produce their Windows 8 phones. There is no time table or manufacturing schedule yet, but the plans are being formulated. Since Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 for tablets are based on the same kernel, it’s very possible that Windows 8 could be applied to the Padfone. But for now, it looks like we’re in for a bit of a wait.
