Today in Taipei ASUS announced a new 10 inch tablet that looks and feels as sexy as an iPad, the ZenPad 3S 10 is a 9.7 inch tablet which is clearly going head to head with the iPad in terms of build quality and aesthetic.
The ZenPad 3S 10 is sporting a 2K IPS display with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 and an all metal chassis. Under the hood we have a Quad Core MediaTek (MT8176 2 Cores at 2.1Ghz & 2 Cores at 1.7GHz) processor which is 64bit and supported by 4GB of RAM. For storage we have only 32GB of on board but you do get a MicroSD card slot which is capable of expanding to 128GB. If that wasn’t enough you’re also going to the get 5GB or ASUS Webstorage and 100GB of free Google Drive space.
The ZenPad 3S 10 comes with a few premium features like Miracast and High Res Audio in the form of DTS HD Premium, DTS Headphone X and ASUS’ own SonicMaster aptX technology.
Taking a look around the svelte tablet, we’ve got the MicroSD card slot on the left, the power and volume rocker on the right, on the bottom we have a couple of speakers and a USB Type C connector to power the 5900MAh (22Wh) battery. Running the latest version of Android we find the familiar ZenUI that we’ve gotten used to on their handsets, we have the same hardware buttons on the front and the front facing camera sports a 5MP shooter for selfies and the rear camera is 8MP with all of the great ZenUI camera features.
The Zenpad 3S 10 measures in at 240.5 x 163.7 x 5.8-7.16mm and weighs in at only 430grams and is available in on August 1st for 11,000 TWD or $340 (US) but Taiwanese pricing is always a little higher than overseas markets. Having said that the way this tablet feels in hand we think that this is a killer price point. We’re really looking forward to testing it out next month when it hits the streets here in Taipei.
Oh, and in case you love Asian press events as much as we do, we thought that we’d include these photos of the models! Let’s face it, a little eye candy never hurt anyone!
