The Apple iPad 5 has finally been released and it is exactly what we expected, it is exactly like the iPad Mini but it is 10 inches. It has all of the expected upgrades with a faster processor, higher resolution display. It is very thin at 7.4mm and is the lightest tablet on the market a only 1 pound, if you’ve forgotten what the old iPad 4 weighed in at, it was a whopping 1.9 pounds.
The iPad Air features the 64-bit A7 processor and M7 motion coprocessor whcih is what Apple used in the iPhone 5S. According to Apple it is 8 times faster and has 72 times better graphics performance than the old processor. Feature wise the processor allows for the addition to some pretty neat features, a 5-megapixel iSight camera and FaceTime HD front-facing camera along with 10 hours of battery life. Apple says the iPad Air has twice the data transfer rate on Wi-Fi thanks to new MIMO 802.11n support, but it doesn’t support 802.11ac.
So what is missing? Well the covers did not have a keyboad built in which would allow the iPad to compete with so many other tablets or 2 in 1’s on the market.
The iPad Air will be available in some new two tone versions of silver and white and space grey and black color options starting at $499 on November 1st. If you’re after LTE or 3G it starts at $629.
What is pretty interesting is that they are keeping the iPad 2 in the lineup for $399.
